New name and look for CPAC

Late in 2021 we were excited to announce what is possibly the biggest news in CPAC's 14 year history - the securing of funding to establish CPAC as a cultural hub for the region. The funding allows for a refurbishment of the centre that will provide our community with new creative and fine arts opportunities now and into the future. The ground floor refurbishment includes access improvements and relocation of the box office with a newly created retail space. The first-floor design includes a maker’s space and exhibition area, while still preserving the existing program room for activities such as drama, dance and music. Work is expected to comence in the coming months.

The expanded focus on arts and culture that these developments will bring meant that it was time to take a closer look at our name and brand. Cessnock Performing Arts Centre, or CPAC, as a brand has served us well over the past 14 years - however, moving forward the centre will be home to more than just the Performing Arts. Our new brand identity Performance Arts Culture Cessnock - or PACC - references the scope of activities that will now be undertaken by the organisation, while still paying tribute to our history.

Over the coming months you may notice some of the communications from us will bear our new PACC branding - our ticket mailers and gift certificates have been updated and are now in circulation, while our monthly eNewsletter (which you can subscribe to right here) has had a shiny facelift that sports the new logo and name. Other brand collateral, such as signage on and around the building, will take a little more time to change over and will have the existing CPAC branding in place.

 Aout the logo

The logo takes inspiration from the organisation’s environment - the proposed floor plan of the refreshed building. The building will serve multiple functions, however, these can be distilled to three primary areas of operations:

  • performance space
  • retail and box office area
  • exhibition and workshops area

PACC logo and the building

The colours used within the logo have been chosen for a number of reasons:

  • to speak to the heritage of the building in which we inhabit. The Morris Light/Grace Bros building was built in around 1924. Styles of the time favoured palettes that showcased rustic reds, mid-to-deep greens, and classic ochres. This palette references these historical choices while at the same time bringing them a more contemporary feel.
  • to incorporate elements of existing branding that has been in place since CPAC commenced operating in 2008.
  • this palette has also been sourced from the furnishings and fixtures within the existing building
