Dorothy was born in Barmera, S.A. She now lives in an old wooden church in Cessnock, which is her studio, gallery and teaching space. Dorothy has a Diploma of Fine Art, and has exhibited since 1990 throughout Newcastle, Central Coast, Hunter Valley, Sydney with group and solo exhibitions in the Hunter Valley. She has won many awards and continues to exhibit.
This exhibition is a collection of expressive landscapes, abstracts, and figurative paintings in watercolour, acrylic and oil, Dorothy loves atmosphere and draws her inspiration from the rich history of the landscape. Natural scenery and wild places restore her spirits and sense of well-being. There is nothing more therapeutic for her than a walk in the bush with the scent of the gums in the wind and the sound of magpies, kookaburras and the chirping of the blue wrens.
Dorothy teaches art, specialising in transparent watercolours. For the last 18 years she has been offering classes and workshops for beginners and the experienced. This has been very rewarding experience with students working in a variety of styles, winning awards and selling. Each year the students, known as the TAOTOCS (the artists of the old church studio) exhibit their work at the Old Fireshed Gallery, Wollombi where they experience displaying their work for the first time, in a professional manner.
