JUNKYARD BEATS: THE BOX SHOW

Junkyard Beats presents Box Show

- Junkyard Beats & Critical Stages Touring -

In the hands of Junkyard Beats, ordinary household items are transformed into extraordinary musical instruments and unwanted junk comes alive in exciting and surprising ways!

The Box Show excites the imagination of children and adults alike. We follow four characters during their daily activities in a world made of cardboard boxes and junk. The contents of an abandoned kitchen and wheelie bins become the greatest drum set in the world; plastic bags are an amazing musical instrument and the human body becomes a unique sound machine.

Tag along for a day in the life of a bunch of musical misfits as they reinvigorate the junk that the world has forgotten. Learn about sustainability with this high energy, imaginative music-in-education performance combining drumming, dance, theatre and comedy. With a language of gibberish and rhythm, this show is accessible to any age and nationality.

Junkyard Beats

The Sydney and Melbourne based performance group was created by Oded Prior in 2015. For the past six years the group have performed all across Australia in major events, theatres, schools and festivals. Junkyard Beats are renowned for their dynamic rhythm shows.

They present a series of high-energy routines that include drumming, body percussion, dance, junk percussion, circus and hilarious skits.

Their family friendly show draws on inspiration from everyday life, the streets and the junkyard. It is filled with imagination, humour and a lot of rhythm.

Oded Prior - Founder and Creative Director of Junkyard Beats

Oded was born and raised in Israel and started to play the drums when he was 13 years old. He began experimenting with objects lying around his home to create sounds and discovered that anything can be a drum, including the human body. Oded is highly skilled in body percussion and junk percussion, and has trained in hip-hop dance, drumming, acting, cajón, djembe and hang drum. After years of touring with some of the world’s top rhythm and percussion groups, Oded has found true passion in connecting communities and spreading environmental awareness all over the globe through music and creative recycling. He has taught rhythm workshops and master classes around the world and recently did a TEDX talk about his rhythmical journey.
